Here’s what I’m trying to understand: EA is holding an “LGBT Full Spectrum” event next month. I’ve now seen multiple people in the blog comments decry the event as insincere and that the entire thing is just a pandering cash grab. I don’t know if the people making this charge are supporters of the LGBT community or not, but regardless, this puzzled me either way.

Here’s what my own opinion is on the issue: It’s fantastic that EA wants to do this and doesn’t believe it’s too risky of a move. It’s awesome that a company this large, in a subculture this intolerant, is putting something like this together.

And really, if I put on the cynicism hat and go along with the premise that this is simply a marketing ploy: HEY, GUESS WHAT— ELECTRONIC ARTS THINKS THAT THEY NEED TO CATER TO THE LGBT COMMUNITY AND WORK TO EARN THEM AS CUSTOMERS. THIS IS A GOOD SIGN. THE FREE MARKET IS STARTING TO REALIZE THAT IT CAN’T PRETEND EVERYONE IS A STRAIGHT WHITE GUY. WHY AM I TYPING IN ALL CAPS STILL
